- Why are skunks choosing my property to live on?
Skunks are just like any other animal in need of a few basic neccesaties to survive such as an available food source and shelter. Often times a skunk problem is started by simply placing a bird feeder near your home. Squirrels will spill large amounts of seed on the ground inviting other wildlife to feed. Fruit trees are a source of food for wildlife and will attract skunks if rotting fruit is left on the ground. If a skunk has found a steady food source and available shelter near by that is usually the recipe for a skunk problem. Reducing the available shelter and removing the food source will help with most wildlife problem.
- Why did a skunk spray around my home?
Skunks will spray for two reasons, to defend itself and to mark it's territory. If a skunk is approached by anything that startles it such as a dog or other animal the skunk may spray. During early spring male skunks are on the move in search for a mate. Male skunks will spray objects to mark it's territory warning other skunks to move on. A skunk may spray a tree, fence , cars and homes in it's attempt to claim it's turf.
- How do I get rid of skunks for good?

- Does tomato sauce get rid of skunk odor?
Using tomato sauce to get rid of skunk odor is an old wise tale. Although the acid in tomato sauce may help slightly it will not remove the odor from objects sprayed by a skunk. Use the solution mixture below to take the odor away from skunk musk. This solution should be used immediately after mixing as it will loose it's odor removing power over time.
Skunk Odor Removal Solution - mix together and apply
- 1 quart hydrogen peroxide
- 1/4 cup baking soda
- 1 tsp liquid dish soap
